1. Thanks for that info 89ABDeniz. I’ll alter the annotation slightly to take this into account.

   The N900 firmware may have some variations for different regions, perhaps some areas have it enabled while others don’t?

   I got my N900 in the mail a few days ago, and after doing the ~22mb and 90mb f/w updates, the extras still was not enabled by default, just a heads up.

3. I’m not sure which app you downloaded, but If you downloaded the plugin that adds AIM support, it isn’t a separate app. It adds AIM support to the N900′s own messaging application Conversations.

   Go to our channel and watch the video about adding MSN support, it will show you what I mean.

4. i too have the same problem with hallam. i dl the aim messenger but i cant seem to find it anywhere on my phone.

   There are more themes and apps out all the time, basically just keep checking the Maemo org downloads and the Ovi Store. There should be a lot more apps once they start manufacturing the N900 in larger quantities, it’s been quite difficult to get one in most countries so far.

7. Okay, I looked up flashlight and it’s not actually meant to have a separate icon.

   You access it by opening the camera cover, closing the camera app, touching the desktop’s clock and then selecting Flashlight from the status menu.

   I know that sounds a bit weird, but it’s an unofficial application, you sometimes get slightly weird interfaces on them.

11. Hallam, go to the apps menu, then click on the “More…” icon, then scroll to the bottom of the screen. All of your newly installed apps appear there.

13. Yeah, don’t worry if there’s a red sign, you haven’t done anything wrong.

    The way these catalogues work is that they download app lists from a server. If the server goes down, it’s like a website being down, you just have to try again later.

14. oh i see it could be the server then,the maemo box is there but it has red sign next to it and it says it cant refresh it,thought perhaps i had deleted something as all the categories had dissapeared,thanks for the reply mate i’ll try again tomorow, i did remove tick too, thanks

15. The maemo org catalogue is there by default, there’s no option for deleting it.

    Did you make sure you removed the tick from the “disabled” box?

    Another possibility is that the maemo org catalogue’s server is down, perhaps you could try it again in a while?

17. “Freeware” simply means software which costs nothing.

    Every dictionary I’ve looked at lists “freeware” as being free-of-charge software. None of them mention anything about the source code or licensing terms.

18. I have to disagree because freeware usually implies that the software is proprietary. Thus, the freeware can’t be open source/free software.

    Of course, you may use the term you want, even if it isn’t correct. But you should know that you are confusing people. When one hear freeware, it’s normal to think about something like crappy freeware on Windows, which of course has nothing to do with Maemo.

19. They are both freeware AND free software, because they are all gratis and open source.

20. All of the apps and games in Maemo Extras are free-of-charge, so they are all freeware.

21. ‘Freeware’ usaually means proprietary software you can get gratis. This is not the case for meamo software. Maemo is ‘free software’ (as in libre), not freeware.
